“Everything you can imagine, nature has already created.”

Albert Einstein

Imagine. You are 3,000 feet high on top of a cliff, overlooking lush trees on bluff edges and the glimmering blue ocean below. You breathe in fresh, crisp air, and ever so slowly, breathe out. As the blazing sun extends over each body part, the skin tingles, releasing tension, opening the tendons. The warmth starts to pour inside now; your heart, mind, and every cell in your body brimming with this cozy, exhilarating light. Sublime beauty is all around you, within you.

Now this is the natural magic of meditation. As we sink deeply inwards into this infinite peace, we have the power to invite in the Great Outdoors. We are always a breath away from reminding our bodies and minds that our nature within is always grounded. Rooted. Alive.

If you’re searching for a life-changing reset, tune into pre-made Nature visualizations or receive your own customized visualization from Still Stories to keep and use every day (plus an exclusive 15% off with the code storytime15 — enjoy!)

So go. Step away from the cell phone. Silent the chatter of your mind and, like the ebb and flow of the ocean or the infinite stars in the sky, watch your scattered thoughts go free. Let the call of the wild beckon your heart and soul.

Ready to meditate with Mother Nature?  Here are 7 breathtaking outdoor scenes to explore in your practice. Find what environment(s) soothe you the most so you can seek this outdoor place both in your mind (and hopefully in person)!

1.   A Starry, Starry Night

“I don’t know anything with certainty, but seeing the stars makes me dream.”

Vincent Van Gogh

You are floating in a pool of darkness, surrounded by ever-lasting trillion specks of white light, a galaxy holding both nothing and everything. You are the Witness of the one small, precious world you once knew. You are free from society, one with eternity.

 2.   The Calming Ocean

“You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop”

— Rumi

The waves of the ocean crash in, flow out, unfurling and flushing out the tangled seaweed of thoughts. Stress drifts away as the salty wind wraps around you, pelting you gently. A powerful calmness seeps into your body, the depth of your soul. You are cool, calm and connected to the earth — and your true essence.

3.   Majestic Mountains

“On the mountains of truth you can never climb in vain: either you will reach a point higher up today, or you will be training your powers so that you will be able to climb higher tomorrow.”

Friedrich Nietzsche

You rise, rise to the occasion. Sweet, musky pine and crisp, cool morning dew stir your senses. A damp fog blankets everything above, while the sun radiates through, and into you.  Your spirits ascend to the highest unknown every time you peer ahead to the next white-tipped peak. You step forward, and up, on top of the world. You are invincible.

4.   Enchanted Forest

“And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.”

John Muir

You’re walking down a path, deep into an enchanted forest. Endless rows of towering trees gift you with oxygen and shelter. Sunbeams pour through the wooded canopy, offering you guidance as you move forward through the twisted path of leaves, stones, and vines. You are surrounded by an ecosystem of truth, finding your way back home (within).

5.   Wildflower Meadow

“How does the Meadow flower its bloom unfold? Because the lovely little flower is free down to its root, and in that freedom bold.”

William Wordsworth

You’re lying on rolling prairie hills filled with flowers of every kind and color. Your arms and legs are extended, receiving light and everlasting beauty. Bask in and surrender to the  intoxicating blend of scents. Let your intuition start to bloom, like petals opening, no longer afraid to be seen. The Universe nurtures you, holds you, in this field of dreams.

6.   The Lakeside

“A lake is the landscape’s most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth’s eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature.”

Henry David Thoreau

You’re on a small wooden boat, floating, with nowhere to go or be but drifting along the lake. A glance into the glass-still waters reflects back the blue sky, clouds, and abundant sunshine above. You look down again, and see. . .You: serene, still, un-rippled by life’s ups and downs. Even when a breeze breaks through, nothing but peace floods your heart.

7.   Jungle Oasis

“The silencing of the rainforests is a double deforestation, not only of trees but a deforestation of the mind’s music, medicine and knowledge.”

Jay Griffiths

You have arrived at a private island of paradise — untouched by civilization. The replenishing oxygen emitted from lush greenery and tropical flora clears your nasal and throat. The vibrant hum of exotic birds chirping and gushing waterfalls invigorates your soul. Your caged mind bursts open — wild and free. Warmth pours in; your heart is full. . .and so alive.

Whatever Nature scene stirs your soul and quiets your mind (be it one of the listed or something else entirely), trust your instinct. Get outdoors often, and invite that vision within when you cannot. Mother Nature provides all the free therapy you need.
